In the Lark Distilling online whisky shop, you'll find all the spirits currently available from our distillery. This will include our single malt whisky, gin, and other liqueurs. The Lark Distillery journey began in 1989 with a shared bottle of single malt whisky and a fishing trip. This started a conversation that would lead to discussions with politicians and amending outdated liquor licensing laws. Fast forward ten years to 1998, and the first Lark Distillery Single Malt Whisky is released to the public. 

Over the past thirty years, the Tasmanian whisky industry has gone through an incredible amount of progress. Today, there are approximately 60 stills registered, although not all of them are currently in production, which is just over a quarter of all the distilleries currently registered in Australia.

In our online whisky shop, you'll uncover what makes Lark whisky so special. We predominantly use Tasmanian ingredients in our whisky. It has been said that a good whisky is all about the water used, and Tasmania is home to some of the freshest water in Australia.

How to choose the right whisky?

When you visit a whisky shop, it can be challenging to know which you'll enjoy. It can even be more difficult when you're looking for a top-shelf whisky to give as a gift. You want to make a good choice, but it can be daunting if you're not experienced with whisky. Shopping online is a better option for finding the perfect whisky. You can take as long as you need to properly research each bottle and find one that has flavours you know will taste good. 

Everyone experiences whisky slightly differently. Some flavours are apparent and can be found by everyone. However, with many aged whiskies, you'll find other flavours are more sensory, and these are often unique to the person tasting them. 

At Lark Distilling Co., we have several whisky tasting sets available, and these can give you a good idea of what our whiskies taste like. Our whisky tasting sets will come with either one or three bottles and a Glencairn glass. All our whisky tasting sets will come with tasting notes (or a video link) to guide you through the process of sampling whisky. 

In our online whisky shop, you can find tasting notes on the individual page of each whisky. You can use these helpful notes to find more information about that whisky and see if those flavours appeal to you. Visiting a distillery is also an excellent method for uncovering some brilliant whisky flavours. At Lark Distillery, you can visit our cellar door during opening hours and take a guided whisky flight.

How should whisky be served?

All whisky should be served at room temperature or about 15-18oC. If you live in a warm climate, storing your whisky in a cool and dark spot should keep it to the correct temperatures. Try to keep the bottle away from large appliances (fridges, ovens, etc.), as fluctuating temperatures may harm the whisky flavours. If you have access to a wine cellar or a quality controlled fridge, then you can keep your whisky in those. 

If you are finding the whisky too intense to drink neat, it is best to cool it down by pouring it into a glass filled with ice. Try to use a large block of ice as this will melt more slowly than smaller cubes. If you are really concerned about ice water in your whisky, you can buy whisky stones. These stones will keep your whisky cool and not add any extra water to your drink.

When drinking your whisky, the best way to serve it is the way you like it. Some people like to drink whisky neat and without any ice. Other people prefer using a mixer, such as coke or tonic water. While you may miss out on some of the flavour nuances when you use a mixer, if that's the way you like to drink it, then don't let anyone tell you differently.

Where can I buy the best whisky near me?

Visiting an online whisky shop is the best way to get a whisky delivery to your home. While you may find whisky in your local retail liquor store, often, these are limited to only the most popular whisky. You'll also find that a retail store needs to cater to everyone shopping there, and they may not have a huge range of whisky available.
